The other day there was a bit on the news about consignment shops and their recent growth of approximately 25%.It is one of those recession proof corners of the market that is actually growing by leaps and bounds.Makes sense.Especially when it comes to kids, how nice is it to actually get something back from those boots that were worn for one short winter or that darling dress that was worn exactly once before it was outgrown. On an ecological note, in this age of reaching ever further to "reduce, reuse, recycle", consigning makes more sense than ever.In the toy department alone, it is a simple way to convert imported goods from China, etc. into local economic growth........ putting money back into a local business as well as the hands of the local consignor, perfection!
For any outdoor enthusiast or parent with small kids in tow, the Rail Trail bike path offers both serenity and safety. This paved path runs 12.3 miles from Nashua, NH to Ayer, MA, passing through Dunstable, Pepperell, and Groton, MA.It was completed in 2002 and runs along the former Hollis branch line of the Boston & Maine railroad. The trail crosses a handful of roads (with ample warning for the crossings) and passes right through part of "downtown" Pepperell where one can pause for ice cream and other treats.
If you’re looking for family fun on the cheap (aka short driving distance from Manchester, Nashua, and vicinity), look no further than Canobie Lake Park.Having not been there since my own childhood, my impressions and memories were a bit foggy…….plus assumed depreciation over the years….. suffice to say I certainly didn’t have great expectations. But the toddler set is relatively easy to please and doing something rather than nothing always seems to make any weekend go better.Located in Salem, NH, only a 25 minute drive from our hometown of Amherst, NH, CanobieLake is a little slice of nostalgia for those of us with southern NH roots.Even my mother-in-law remembers going on the caterpillar ride as a kid!
